How do I know if my AC is leaking Freon?

One of the most common problems with air-conditioning systems is freon leaks. Freon, often called a refrigerant, cools the house by removing warm air from the air conditioner and moving it outside. But, for a variety of reasons, freon may be starting to leak. Freon leaks can cause serious health problems for those exposed, as well as performance and efficiency problems.

Note that there is no need to refill or add refrigerants from the air conditioner. Compared with natural gas and oil, refrigerants never dry out. Instead, the AC system circulates throughout the house.

It is important to know the signs of the air-conditioner leaving the freon in order to comfortably protect your home, especially your loved ones. A good refrigerant leak detector can help you find the freon or refrigerants leaking easier. Read on to learn how to check for freon AC leaks and what to do about them.

1. Low air volume

If there is less refrigerant in the air conditioner, cooler air will not be produced.

2. AC blowing warm wind

You may notice that it takes a long time to cool the house, and you may feel the air conditioning blowing hot air out of the cash register.

3. Ice accumulation on copper wire or evaporator coil

A clear sign of a refrigerant leak is a buildup of ice on copper wires or evaporator coils. If your system lacks the refrigerant needed to cool the house, copper or evaporator coils can absorb a lot of heat. As a result, condensate accumulates and freezes the pipe or coil.

4. High electricity bills

If the refrigerant leaks from your air conditioner, your system must work harder to cool the house. As a result, the system consumes more energy, which can lead to higher energy costs.

5. It takes time to cool the house

Refrigerants absorb heat from the house and move it out. However, if there is not enough refrigerant in the system, the house will not be able to do the necessary cooling effectively.

Symptoms of chlorofluorocarbons poisoning

CFC poisoning occurs when a person is exposed to large amounts of freon. CFCS contain fluorocarbons, which can cause a variety of health problems. Chemicals are colorless and odorless. Therefore, if you suspect a freon leak in the air conditioner, please be careful.

If you or a loved one experiences any of these symptoms, seek medical advice immediately as they may be related to freon poisoning.

- dizzy

- nausea

- shortness of breath

- fluid builds up in the lungs
